Trails in the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve closed due to flooding and gastrointestinal illness outbreak

The hiking trails in the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve, namely the Kevo and Kuivi trails, are closed due to river flooding and a gastrointestinal illness situation until 25 June 2025.

Stomach flu cases continue in Urho Kekkonen National Park

Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife has received new reports of stomach flu cases from the Midsummer weekend in Urho Kekkonen National Park and along the Kalottireitti Trail in Northern Lapland. The Kevo routes in Utsjoki will be opened to hikers as planned on Thursday, 26 June.

The Number of Camping Sites in the Kevo Nature Strict Reserve Has Been Reduced

In Kevo Strict Nature Reserve, camping is only allowed at the rest sites built for this purpose and in the hut yards, even in winter. Some camping sites have been closed due to low usage and to concentrate maintenance efforts. These areas may still appear on printed maps. Please do not camp at the following rest sites along the Kevo route ->

Trails in the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve closed due to flooding and stomach flu – Overnight hikes still not recommended in Urho Kekkonen National Park

Metsähallitus is closing the trails in the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve until 25 June 2025 due to flooding and a stomach flu outbreak. Over the weekend, Metsähallitus received new reports of stomach flu in Urho Kekkonen National Park. Metsähallitus continues to recommend that visitors to the park avoid overnight hikes and stay on marked trails.
