Puusilta Lahnasenkosken kuohujen yllä.

The Ritakoski-Lahnasenkoski area encompasses the largest part of the Hiitolanjoki recreational areas. Two freely flowing rapids, historic power plant buildings, and the easy-access trails built around them in a diverse natural environment make it a year-round destination for outings.

  • Beautiful river scenery and a diverse natural environment
  • Easy-access trails on the eastern bank of the river
  • Over 100-year-old power plant buildings and dam structures
  • Freely cascading rapids
  • Nature Reserve on the west bank of the river down from Lahnasenkoski rapids
  • From the birdwatching tower you can observe the birdlife on the river and a beaver nest opposite site

The appeal of the Hiitolanjoki recreational area lies in its freely cascading rapids, which were dammed for hydropower for over 100 years. Lahnasenkoski (with an 8-meter drop) was restored in 2022, and Ritakoski (with a 4-meter drop) followed in 2023. The third rapids of Hiitolanjoki, Kangaskoski and recreation spot, is located separately about three kilometers downstream.

Bridges over Ritakoski and Lahnasenkoski allow visitors to cross and admire the rushing white waters from above. A circular trail is possible but suitable only for those with good mobility, as the western trail includes rocks and steps. Information boards and trail signs showcase the unique nature and history of Hiitolanjoki.
