Paddling in Hammastunturi wilderness
The River Ivalojoki with its rapids of different types is a spectacular paddling destination. You can start your trip at Ivalon Matti or Kuttura and continue all the way to Lake Inarijärvi. However, the River Ivalojoki is not suitable for those who are new to paddling. There are 30 rapids and a height difference of 82.5 metres between Kuttura and Ivalo. The length of the route from Kuttura to Ivalo is 70 km. While the River Ivalojoki is shallow and rocky in summer, paddling along it is possible throughout the summer season.
There are several wilderness and rental huts along the River Ivalojoki. Popular places for overnight stays among paddlers include especially the open wilderness huts and rental huts along the River Ivalojoki.
Canoes, kayaks and packrafts are used in Ivalojoki.
