The only marked hiking trail in Hammastunturi Wilderness Reserve runs from Pahaoja to Kultala on the River Ivalojoki. This is a suitable destination for an overnight excursion. There are no marked hiking trails in the core parts of the area. Appropriate destinations for day trips include Rautujärvi day hut and Suivakkojärvi open wilderness hut. They are only suitable for those with navigation skills, and to reach the starting points, hikers must first follow forest roads for dozens of kilometres.
