The footbridge at Äkässaivo in Muonio will be closed due to poor condition
10/07/2024The bridge at Äkässaivo, located on the western side of Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, is in poor condition and will be closed to ensure visitor safety. EDIT. 25 January 2025: "Western side" added.
The bridge will be completely dismantled on Tuesday, 8 October 2024. At the same time, the hiking trail will be rerouted so that the river no longer needs to be crossed. The new trail alignment will be marked in the terrain and taken into use during the same week as the bridge removal. The summer trail on the opposite side of the river will be discontinued.
Äkässaivo receives approximately 6,500 visits per year. The rest area and other structures at the site are in good condition.
