The Isokankaan kierros Trail runs through moist and dry pine forests and as the trail runs in rugged terrain, there are a few difficult sections. There are no major elevation differences on the trail. In some places , the trail runs on duckboards and gravel-hardened paths.
You can start the Isokankaan kierros Trail by turning to the right from the Korpiseläntie parking area. Access to the Korpiseläntie road is blocked with a barrier. For about 0.8 kilometres, the trail shares the same route with the Korpilammen kierros Trail, running on a narrow path in moist terrain and on duckboards in a spruce forest and along Korpioja.
The Isokankaan kierros Trail branches from the Korpilammen kierros Trail, turning to the right towards the Lake Isokankaanjärvi at the first trail junction. The distance from the junction to the lakeshore campfire site is about 2.3 kilometres. In this section, the trail runs on duckboards and in rocky terrain, which may pose challenges, especially in wet weather.
After the Isokangas campsite, the trail continues on a closed forest road near the southern shores of the Lake Isokankaanjärvi, past a parking area and towards the Ahinmaja rental hut. The distance from the campsite to the Isokankaan kierros Trail and the road to the Ahinmaja rental hut is about 0.3 kilometres.
The hiking trail does not run through the yard of the rental hut as it turns right before the yard. After the Ahinmaja rental hut, the terrain along the trail gradually becomes drier.
The northern section of the Isokankaan kierros Trail passes the Lake Isokankaanjärvi from the east and enters a dry pine forest where the easy trail crosses a number of old forest roads. North of the Lake Isokankaanjärvi, the trail continues westwards towards the Korpilampi Pond. This section has a length of about 4.6 kilometres.
At Korpilampi, the Isokankaan kierros Trail again merges with the shorter Korpilammen kierros Trail and both share the same path for the rest of the route. The trail features a duckboard section across the Korpilammensuo mire and about 1.9 kilometres of moist pine forest.
For the last 0.6 kilometres, the Isokankaan kierros Trail first runs on a forest road and then continues on a wide gravelled path to the Loppula parking area.
