The huts and toilets along the Karhunkierros Trail are once again available for use. Hikers are advised to pay special attention to hygiene.
A week ago, Metsähallitus recommended avoiding hiking on the Karhunkierros Trail, which runs through the municipalities of Kuusamo and Salla. Metsähallitus also temporarily closed the wilderness huts along the trail due to cases of stomach illness.

This week, Metsähallitus' maintenance contractor has cleaned the wilderness huts and wiped down the surfaces of toilets and shelters along the trail. Hikers are still encouraged to maintain good hygiene. The cause of the stomach illness remains unknown.
