A new entrepreneur starting at Auroratuva and Luttopirtti offers new services for hikers in Urho Kekkonen National Park

In Saariselkä and Urho Kekkonen National Park, services are tailored to meet the needs of both international and domestic visitors. The historic Luttopirtti will feature a ski café during the season. At other times, both Luttopirtti and the Aurora rental hut — built for northern lights viewing — will serve an increasingly international clientele under the leadership of entrepreneur Jouko Lappalainen. The new entrepreneur will start in December 2025. There is also a day-use hut next to the rental hut, which is always open and available for all hikers.

Aurora rental hut and Luttopirtti will become versatile event and customer spaces, combining private functions, the company’s own service environment, and open access for hikers. Private bookings for the Aurora rental hut can be made directly through Wilderness Hotels Oy.

Information about the huts

Aurora day-use and rental hut is located along an illuminated trail, about 700 meters from the Urho Kekkonen National Park entrance gate in Saariselkä. Built in 2016, the hut houses a day-use hut and a separate event space under the same roof. The yard area offers a large terrace, a toilet-woodshed building, and fire pits for all hikers.
Luttopirtti sits on the banks of the Lutto River, about 100 meters from the starting point of Saariselkä’s trails. Built in 1952 and renovated in 2023, it is a historic building—the only surviving 1950s hiking lodge in the area, originally a sauna.
