Geocaching

Paddling

Nuuksio offers an excellent opportunity to try out this activity that gets you up close and personal with nature. You can rent a canoe either in Solvalla or Haukkalampi.

Another way to explore Nuuksio is on horseback. There are approximately 22 kilometres of bridle paths in the park.

Pick berries and mushrooms

Nuuksio National Park has excellent terrain for picking blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) and also lingonberries (Vaccinium vitis-idaea)) in some places, and the crops of yellowfoot fungi (Craterellus tubaeformis) are often good.

Climbing

  • One of the best-known rock climbing sites in Southern Finland can be found on Nuuksiontie road outside the park.
  • To protect valuable rock vegetation, rock climbing is prohibited in Nuuksio National Park.
  • Abseiling is allowed at the campfire site on the easternmost Kolmoislampi Lake.
  • Ice climbing is allowed at Romvuori by Nuuksion Pitkäjärvi Lake.

Bird watching

  • Nuuksio National Park is home mainly to typical southern Finnish forest birds.
  • In the park, you can see, among other things, the Willow tit (Poecile montanus) and the Crested tit (Poecile montanus), and several species of woodpeckers.
  • In spring, you can hear the hooting of owls in different parts of Nuuksio.
  • Lake Matalajärvi is a particularly valuable lake for birds. You can see a lot of birds especially in spring and autumn. There is a birdwatching tower by Lake Matalajärvi.
