Biking
You can hike and bike on the Hailuoto hiking trails. The island’s heaths and lichen fields are extremely sensitive to wear, so bike only on marked trails and existing tracks. If there are duckboards on the trail, you may ride your bike on them. Hiking trails are maintained by the municipality of Hailuoto.
Swimming
Hailuoto is known for its extensive sandy beaches and dunes. The most popular swimming spot is Marjaniemi. There is no official, maintained and supervised beach on Hailuoto. Even though visitors are allowed to swim on any of the beaches on Hailuoto in accordance with Everyman’s rights, none of the beaches are officially designated as such.
When swimming, please keep your own safety, landowners and waste collection in mind.
Paddling
Hailuoto is a wonderful sea kayaking destination for those who already have some paddling experience. When paddling at sea, the weather must be taken into account. Also pay attention to landing and water area restrictions to safeguard bird habitats. See the Instructions and rules page for information on access and landing restrictions.
Good, shallow landing sites for paddlers include Pöllänlahti Bay and Suninkari fishing harbour, both located on the southern side of the island.
Skiing
There are ski tracks of different lengths in the Hyyppä area and at the parish village. These tracks are maintained by the municipality of Hailuoto.
