Forest is burning near Oulanka National Park

(Updated 29.7.2019)

Today Metsähallitus is doing a controlled restoration burning of a land area near the Liikasenvaarantie -road at 1pm.
The controlled burning is needed for restoring the forest ecosystem and to boost the biodiversity of the nearby biomes.
The area dedicated for this is Paahtamasuo, situated about four kilometers to north-east from the Oulanka Visitor Centre and North for the Liikasenvaarantie -road, outside of the Oulanka National Park.

Smoke might be detected on the Karhunkierros trail between Taivalköngäs and Ansakämppä during the burning and extinguishing procedures. Smoke will also likely be detected at the Keroharjun Kuiskaus -trail and the Liikasenvaarantie -road.
Hikers and the road users do not need to worry.

If you notice a forest fire somewhere else than at the dedicated spot for the restoration burning, contact the emergency number 112 to report it.
