Terranova, which means new land, provides information on land uplift, the
natural features of the Kvarken area, protected areas, nature tourism services
and recreational use of nature. Terranova - Kvarken Nature Centre is situated in
the same facilities as the Ostrobothnian Museum.
Opening Hours 2010
Tue, Thurs and Fri 10 am to 5 pm, Wed 10 am to 8 pm,
Sat and Sun 12 to 5
pm. Closed on Mondays.
Groups should make reservations in advance.
On Thursday 9.4. Terranova and Ostrobothnian museum closes at 3 p.m. During
Easter closed Fri 10.4. - Mon 13.4.
Entrance
Tickets to the Nature Centre are sold at the Ostrobothnian Museum (museo.vaasa.fi). For the
same price visitors can see the museum's art and cultural history
collections.

you can get information about the nature in Kvarken Archipelago, protected areas
and hiking destinations.

The Nature Centre is managed by the Ostrobothnian Museum in co-operation with
Metsähallitus.
Directions
The Nature Centre is located in the old part of the Ostrobothnian Museum (museo.vaasa.fi) on the
sea shore at the northern tip of the centre of Vaasa.
By Car
Koulukatu Road has parking places where cars can be left. Tourist coaches are
easiest to leave on Museokatu Road.
By Public Transportation
- There are good coach and train connections to Vaasa from the south and
north. The Nature Centre is 1.1 km from the railway station and bus station.
- The Vaasa airport is 12 km from the Nature Centre.
- There is a car ferry
(www.rgline.com) from Vaskiluoto outer harbour to Sweden.

The space can be used for independent research and reading. Group tours are
also held here.
Teaching Material and Reference Library
- There are stuffed animals from a 100-year period. The exhibition centres
on birds and mammals which inhabit or are sometimes seen in the Vaasa region.
- In the Nature Centre office on the second floor of the Ostrobothnian
Museum there is a broad collection of books on nature. The office is not a
public area, but visitors may read the books on request.
Cafe and Restaurant Services
- There is a cafe on the premises of the Ostrobothnian Museum. It is open at
the same hours as the Museum and Nature Centre.
- We prepare group meals by reservation, even outside of opening
hours.
Services for the Disabled
- The Nature Centre is on the bottom floor of the Ostrobothnian Museum. The
exhibition space is accessible by wheelchair.
- The auditorium can also be accessed by wheelchair. The auditorium fits 2
to 3 wheelchairs at a time.
