features of the Käsivarsi region, in northwestern Finland.

Entrance
There is no entrance fee. We charge for group tours at our exhibitions: 45 €
per group per hour. Tours should be reserved in advance.

Directions
By Car
When approaching the village of Kilpisjärvi from the south, our Visitor
Centre can been seen from afar. It is located at the southern end of the
village, on a hillside, on the right side of the road. There is a parking lot
below the Visitor Centre. The disabled can, however, drive all the way to the
upper yard.
By Public Transportation

Coaches come daily from Rovaniemi.

We arrange a variety of events at the Kilpisjärvi Visitor Centre.
Skandien laidalla (At the Edge of Scandinavia) Exhibition
The permanent exhibition at
the visitor centre depicts the unique nature of Finland’s largest Fells in the
Käsivarsi area and life in Yliperä. The exhibit shows visitors the different
stages of Kilpisjärvi history, and the fast change in lifestyle, when
inhabitants moved from pole tents into houses.
AV Presentations
There are several short slideshows about Kilpisjärvi, plants in the region
and reindeer husbandry. The shows are a few minutes long and do not have
commentary.
Library
In our small library, visitors will find an abundance of reading material.
There are even a few interesting rarities.
Children’s Play Corner
The children’s play corner has
books on nature. There are also drawing and colouring books, and children can
play together.
Hiking and Skiing Trails
The Nordkalottleden Trail, which passes through three countries, begins on
the Visitor Centre grounds. Another trail, which passes by Lakes Tsahkaljärvi
and Saanajärvi, also begins there.
During winter, a ski trail begins from the grounds and goes to Lake Saana,
and on from there to the Kilpisjärvi Retkeilykeskus hiking centre. More
