Nuuksio National Park Trails

Hiking Trails

Starting Points for Trails

All the circular trails in the National Park start and end in front of the Haukkalampi Nature Information Hut. Takala Trail begins at the main building of Kattila. There also is one trail that goes through the whole of the park, from Siikaniemi to Haukkalampi, and from there via either Kattila or Högbacka to Salmi recreational forest.

Nature Trails

  • The Nahkiaispolku Nature Trail, 2 km, begins at Haukkalampi Nature Information Hut. Along the trail you find information on habitat restoration. The interesting trail in quite difficult terrain is marked with cone signs.

  • Punarinnankierros Trail, 2 km, has the easiest terrain of the trails in the National Park. Along the trail you can see small lakes and beautiful heath. The trail is marked with red signs.
    • Services:
    • Haukkalampi Nature Information Hut at starting and ending points, water available at the Guide Hut, camping site, campfire site and cooking shelter at Lake Mustalampi.
    • Sights: The turf floats of Lake Mustalampi
  • Haukankierros Trail, 4 km. The quickest way to get a general impression of the Nuuksio National Park is to walk the Haukankierros Trail. The trail goes up to high rocks, where you have the great scenery towards Haukkalampi and Brook Myllypuro valley. The trail is marked with blue signs.
    • Services:
    • Haukkalampi Nature Information Hut at starting and ending points, water available at the Guide Hut, camping site, campfire site and cooking shelter at Lake Mustalampi.
    • Sights: The scenery to Brook Myllypuro valley, and the turf floats of Lake Mustalampi
  • Korpinkierros, 8 km, crosses Rajakallio Rock with a long uphill climb. Along the trail you can see many small lakes and ponds. The trail is marked with yellow signs.
    • Services:
    • Haukkalampi Nature Information Hut at starting and ending points, water available at the Guide Hut, camping site, campfire site and cooking shelter at Lake Mustalampi, reservable camping site at Lake Kolmoislampi, two campfire sites/ camping sites and a lean-to shelter at Lake Holma-Saarijärvi.
    • Sights: The turf floats of Lake Mustalampi

Other Trails

  • Takala Trail, 1,5 km, from Kattila to the lean-to shelter in Takala is marked with black stripe on orange signs.
    • Services: Lean-to shelter in Takala, campfire site and water available in Kattila.
  • Siikajärvi-salmi Trail, 17 km. From Siikajärvi it is possible to walk via Haukkalampi all the way to Salmi recreational forest. The connecting trails are marked with black stripe on orange signs.
    • Services: Camping sites and other services depend on your choice of the route.
  • Trail 2000 is a 110-km-long hiking trail, which begins in Laakso in Helsinki, and goes through the National Park. The trail is marked with blue band on the trees.

Other Hiking Tips

  • Own paths. If you know how to orientate, in the National Park area it is possible to hike outside the marked trails. With the Nuuksio-Luukkaa outdoor map and a compass, you can enjoy the diverse natural features of Nuuksio.
  • Destinations accessible in wheelchair and/or baby pram: The National Park landscape is quite demanding, due to differences in altitude. However, around Haukkalampi and Kattila it is possible to use wheelchair. There are also grounds old roads in the area, and some of them are quite easy to access.
  • In the winter it is quiet and peaceful in Nuuksio. You can ski, and walk with or without snow shoes. In the winter there are no maintained skiing or hiking trails. The nearest maintained skiing trails are in the recreational forests of the surrounding towns.

Biking Trails

For cyclists there are circular and through trails in the National Park, and they continue onto the surrounding recreational forests. The trails consist of roads accessible by car, small cart roads, and short footpath sections. The trails are not as good as urban cycle tracks, but they are driveable by an ordinary bike, walking the footpath sections and hills, if necessary. Also the National Bike Trail Network’s route number 2 goes through the National Park from Siikajärvi via Haukkalampi to Salmi.

Altogether there are about 30 km of trails designated for cycling. Please note that cycling is only allowed on the trails designated for this purpose.

Riding Trails

There are about 22 km of trails designated for horse riding in Nuuksio National Park. Most of them are former cart tracks, which are used by for example hikers too. Please note that horse riding is only allowed on the trails designated for this purpose.
