The new 15-minute wildlife film, ‘Land of the Peregrine Falcon’, tells about
the mires of the Pelkosenniemi Natura 2000 network and can be seen at the
Pyhätunturi Visitor Centre. There are English, German and French versions of the
film in addition to the Finnish one.
The film depicts life on the mires from spring until the beginning of winter.
Besides the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), it shows a variety of
other species of animals and plants. Inspiring descriptions of red-throated
divers brooding and a family of elks travelling in the summer night through
wetlands adorned with cotton grass tell their own story about the uniqueness of
the area’s wilderness. People, too, have their place in this scene. ‘Land of the
Peregrine Falcon’ takes the viewer along trails and duckboards, up to the top of
a bird-watching tower and to cranberry-covered marshes. Where the duckboards
end, you are carried in a hot-air balloon to see the nearly boundless expanse of
mires.
‘Land of the Peregrine Falcon’ has been brought to you as part of the
Pelkosenniemi Life Project, a co-project with Lapland Regional Environment
Centre, Metsähallitus and the Municipality of Pelkosenniemi. The film is
produced by Tekstivirta Ky.
