Ristikallio Open Wilderness
Hut in Oulanka National Park is being Renovated
The renovation of the Ristikallio open wilderness hut along the Karhunkierros
Trail by the River Aventojoki will take place early this winter. The floor of
the hut will be demolished, the stove replaced and the wall structure and roof
renewed. Renovation work will begin in mid-October and continue until the end of
November, during which time the hut will be closed to overnight visitors. The
roof of the hut will be repaired last, and during this time the hut will be
available for use as normal. The campfire site in the courtyard area of the hut
is available throughout the renovation.
The next open wilderness hut from Ristikallio is by the Taivalköngäs Rapids,
approximately 5 km south along the Karhunkierros Trail.
A New Suspension Bridge over River Maaninkajoki
The River Maaninkajoki, located along the oldest part of the Karhunkierros
Trail, can now be crossed by a brand new suspension bridge which will be
available in October.
With the construction of this bridge, the number of bridges along the
Karhunkierros Trail now totals seven.
